Serena father was very keen about their daughters and want to make them tennis professional. So they started teaching tennis to Serena from her early age. She begins her training on the public court of Compton. She developed her skill very quickly and at the age of four and half she entered in the tournament. She appeared as a junior in that tournament and won 46 matches out of 49.

Serena then joins Ric Macci's Florida tennis academy for further training. At the age 14 she turned to be a professional and because of less age she has to take part in non-WTA tournament first at Bell Challenge in Quebec. Though she was lost in the tournament but in 1997 she was ranked 304th in the world.

In 1999 at Australian Open she won her first Grand Slam by beating sixth seed Irina Spirlea. On 11th September 1999 she won the U.S. Open and the next day both she and her sister Venus won the Ladies Doubles. Because of the knee injury she was out of competition for 8 months. In 2004 She came back to play in the final at Wimbledon but she can't won major titles.

Besides their career and profession Williams sisters are very close friends of each other. Both Serena and Venus are home schooled by their mother Oracene. In 1999 the two sisters did fashion designing at the Art Institute of Florida. Serena designed her own clothing called as Aneres which is backward of her first name spelling. She plans to sell in boutiques in Miami and Los Angeles. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
